The Spruce Street School PTA can work its wonders in school thanks to community fundraising events, organized and led by parent volunteers. Sure, our collective efforts have a huge impact on the quality of our children's education, and that's already a good argument - but it does not stop there. Most of all, our events create new friendships, tighten bonds, and weave the very fabric of our community.
Be it at the Taste of the Seaport, in a Halloween party, during the Book Fair week, around Friendship day or before during and after the Gala, there is so much to do - and yes, it's work, but it's also fun. Together, we provide an enriched education, that extends beyond DoE-funded basics. And most of all, we enjoy ourselves.
This year, we need to take into account COVID safety protocols, of course. But it does not mean we're stopping - on the contrary. We're just getting more creative. Here's the plan:

This year, we need to take into account COVID safety protocols, of course. But it does not mean we're stopping - on the contrary. We're just getting more creative. Here's the plan:
- We start the year with Taste of the Seaport, which happened on October 16th 2021 and is already scheduled for Saturday, October 15th, 2022 for its 12th edition. That's easy, it's outdoors.
- Then it's time for Halloween. An outdoor Scavenger Hunt replaced the traditional Spooktacular and was, of course, outdoors as well - plans for Halloween 2022 are currently being discussed.
- Children, parents and teachers love our Book Fair (and they will, even in a socially distanced edition), as much as the Read-a-thon, where extended families and friends also contribute, and is as safe as any online-only activity. This school year, we are running both of them at the same time, end of April / early May.
- This year's Gala will be on June 16th, and it will be in a part-outdoors location. Which makes it safer even in case of yet another variant, and also, actually, truly beautiful.
- Friendship Day happened in February and is always individually-wrapped.
- Oh, and then there's Spruce Experience, all year round - both online and in person (with proof of vaccination if indoor).
